The debut work of the St. Petersburg electronic trio was released at the end of 1999, and earned wide recognition from listeners and critics. The press wrote: "Ivan Kupala opened the eyes of an entire generation, forcing people to take a fresh look at the seemingly archaic genre, and gave a powerful impetus to the revival of interest in folk music throughout the country."

The album sold record numbers, won several music awards, was re-released abroad, and the video for the song of the same name was included in the top ten "best Russian music videos of all time" according to MTV Russia. Even today, Ivan Kupala's debut release continues to be in demand, confirming its status as a "classic of Russian popular music."

The Kostroma album will be reissued in two versions: classic, on black vinyl for conservative music lovers, and jubilee, on yellow transparent vinyl. Timed to coincide with Kostroma's 25th anniversary, the anniversary edition will be complemented by a collectible silver-green slipcase, as well as a seven-inch single with alternative versions of the tracks Kostroma and Kolyada, prepared by Ivan Kupala band members specifically for this release.
